Name Changes

I used to play music as Two White Cranes and last year I stopped. You can read more about that here. It was really nice to not play music to anyone and to feel as if I didn’t have to ever do it again if I didn’t want to. But I knew I did want to do it again – every time I watched someone being super inspiring on stage I got super inspired. For a while that was actually quite frustrating. It took a while to start writing again but last month I started writing some songs I really really like and now I have enough songs, and enough confidence, to play some shows and thats what I’m going to do.

I decided not to continue with the name Two White Cranes, partly because the name came from a very particular time in my life, when I was walking every day to file medical records in a hospital on a hill in Oxford. I feel very distant from that life now, and I feel very happy about that distance.

I chose the name Radisson Blue for three reasons:

  1. It is the name of my second Two White Cranes album and I wanted to make it clear that these new songs won’t be all that different to the songs that came before, that they are connected but just also new.
  2. I love the Radisson Blu hotel in Bristol, which is what the album is named after.
  3. I think Radisson Blue sounds like the name of bitchin country singer, which is my dream self. Its an aspirational name and I hope I do it justice

Coming up I have two shows booked and I am going to maybe try and play a few more. I’m going to write some more songs and try and play some of them with a few of my friends and see how that goes. The main thing I’m going to do, is try to do everything slowly, try not to worry or get upset about it, focus on playing music as the positive thing it has the possibility to be.
